A Partnership of Pride: Draught Works, Missoula Pride, and The Western Montana Community Center

Say Gay Juicy Pale Ale is the delicious result of our collaboration with Missoula Pride and the WMCC. In the spring of 2022, staff members of the WMCC and the Missoula Pride committee reached out to us with the hope of designing an unforgettable landmark beer for their first-ever Missoula Pride celebration. This request came shortly after Florida passed the controversial HB 1557 “Don’t Say Gay” Bill, which highlighted the urgency for raising awareness about LGBTQ+ rights being threatened.

Our goal was to create a beer that not only tastes great to a wide variety of palates but also serves as a shining beacon of solidarity and support for the LGBTQ+ community. In response, we crafted Say Gay Juicy Pale Ale, a wildly approachable, refreshing, juicy, low-bitter pale ale. We named the beer in collaboration with Missoula Pride and the WMCC to highlight the political climate surrounding LGBTQ+ rights at the time and to emphasize that awareness and acceptance are paramount for preventing harm and prejudice against LGBTQ+ communities.
